The premier urged the guests to help the Palestinian people in getting rid of occupation, ending settlement activity, and establishing their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. He stressed the importance of ending the oppressive siege on the Palestinian people especially in Gaza that turned into a big prison.
Haneyya pointed to the importance of direct dialog with the western governments so that they would directly hear from the Palestinian government regarding its positions and ideas.
Haneyya was speaking during a meeting at his office in Gaza on Wednesday with Stéphane Frédéric Hessel, a former French ambassador who participated in the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, and Regis Debray, the advisor to former French president Francois Mitterrand, in the presence of justice minister Mohammed Al-Ghoul and other officials and Issam Younis, the director of the Mizan center for human rights.
For his part, Hessel expressed sorrow over the world community's stand in not assisting the Palestinians since the Nabka of 1948 in restoring their rights and the presence of double standards in application of the international law, which tilt in favor of Israel.
He hoped that the situation would change and the Palestinians would regain their rights and establish their state. He also hoped that there would be justice in implementing the international law and the universal declaration of human rights.
